Among all the SC400 ads on my local Craigslist, two of them stand out to me. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
I’m considering all my options. I contacted the seller of the former to schedule a meet. I’d like to know if you, denizens of Oppositelock, would even consider an SC400 with a salvaged title. Keep in mind these cars are only worth a couple of thousand dollars, so it wouldn’t take that much to salvage them.

Depends on who did the work/how bad the initial damage was.

I suppose it would depend on how cheap, how good a condition the car seems to be in, and how much information you have about it.
EG, was the title branded because someone smashed the window, took a joyride, and stole the stereo and that’s all been properly put back together since, or is it a salvage because it was flooded up to its roof?
I’m not totally opposed to the idea of buying a salvage car, but I’d certainly be very cautious about it.

For me, the gold package would nix it, but that can be corrected.

I am so sorry that I showed you that one the other day (didn’t see the “salvage” on the sidebar), but remember that this is WA: you CAN get a WA rebuilt title, but the facts are that this seller still has the Lexus as salvaged, meaning it has not yet passed state inspection.
I’m frankly not a fan of potentially getting fucked over for 7 grand.

NO! IT MUST HAVE GOLD

Depends on why it was salvaged. My 5th gen has a rebuilt title from hitting a ditch years ago.

I owned a rebuilt car. It was bad.
Try and see a Carfax. See if the car was repaired but still driven by the same guy. Or if it was wrecked, sold, “fixed”, and then sold. If it’s like the latter you know it wasn’t fixed properly. But maybe if it’s the former it was at least done with some quality.

At that price range, one fender or bumper replacement will salvage the car. So really salvage titles aren’t even risky as long as you know the reason behind it.

Depends if i can insure it and why it is has a salvage title

YES IT MUST

Do you still own that C30

Well first of all there’s no way that Lexus is getting sold for $6200. Maybe $2000 at best.
But you do have a good point. It might not pass inspection. I’ll have to do some digging around.

Right, which is why I’m kind of on the fence about it.

5th gen... ‘Lude?

Insurance is more expensive with a salvaged car, right?

You never see a facelifted SC400 for sale, anywhere, ever. It is super tempting. But you could remedy this yourself.
Research necessary documentation that you need to get a rebuilt title
Set a cap on what you are willing to pay (I wish I would have done this with other cars I’ve bought)
Bring a mechanic you trust and, hell, let him drive it/ look at it (you’ve already test-driven one yourself). See what his evaluation of it is.
OH GOD I WANT ALL THE COUPES

I don’t know any mechanics around here... Wanna come with?
How good are you with a socket wrench?

If you’re in the market for a 30-year old Toyota, I’m your man.
If you’re in the market for a late-90's V8 luxury computered car, I am NOT your man.

That’s what I was thinking ... you can’t get that kind of money for a nearly 30 year old car.

It’s a Toyota though!
BTW, when I get one, what would you think if I swapped the badges for Toyota Soarer badges?
![]() 04/16/2016 at 19:45 |

Yep. I had it Carfaxed about a year ago. It also had an earlier, more minor accident.

I'm in! I wanna see this thing. Any description on why it's salvaged?

Un-American. Unless you actually do do it, in which case I will fully support it.

Yeah. She’s my baby. Why?
![]() 04/16/2016 at 19:50 |

Nope, but it could have been from Heron crap. These cars are ridiculously worthless.

they honestly might not even insure it...varies on insurance company

Yes and I did. It was totaled 10 years before I bought, even had visible paint runs. Right in the rear quarter panel that I also rekt, saw the bondo under paint after. Still ran like a top well past 200k miles. But the alignment was always bad on that tire, so I’m not sure this is helpful.

Those must be the Hot Wheels wheels. Damn that’s not good.

Listen to Zoidberg’s previous post. Really solid advice.

Check your state laws on salvage titles. Getting a non VA salvaged titled car registered here in VA is a fucking nightmare.
